The Opening of the 4th London Poetry Festival 2008

Friday: 08.08.08 at 7:30 p.m

The 4th London Poetry Festival 2008 has opened up the 4-day-celebrations of contemporary English poetry, at 7:30 P. M. on Monday evening: 08.08.08 (with the Chinese Olympic Opening) at Waterloo St John’s Church, Waterloo Road, London SE1 We should have invited Chris Patten for a speech!

The Festival started with this year’s Poets in Residence Readings. Claire Askew, Catherine Brogan and Helen Long performed and showed the evening what they were made off. Wonderful poetry and performances from them! Although Sharon Harriott, Anjan Saha and Nnorom Azuonye were missed since they could not be at the opening. But from tomorrow they are expected to join in.

At the second Session read Sarah Wardle, Graham Buchan, Joshua Seigal and Richard Deakin.

At the Open Mic performed Rob Scales and John Clarke.

Adam Cookson wrapped up the evening with wonderful music.

Claire Askew conducted the whole evening with brilliance, command and grace while Helen Askew became the Treasurer of the Festival Chest and Siobhan Lennon kept everything together including doing the banners and running the Café while Danny Walters just kept everyone connected and Donal Lennon for coming and showing his support.

A huge thank you goes to all the Poets in Residence, all the other poets and musicians and everyone else who came to make the evening an enjoyable event.

Me? Who is me?

I sat and listened to the performances: closed eyed.

See you all tomorrow.

Thanks
